From Sam's Club in Woodbury to an MMA title shot

EAGAN, Minn. - When Brett Rogers steps into the cage on Saturday night against Fedor Emelianenko, he will be face to face with the most feared fighter in the world.

Emelianenko is the mixed martial arts version of Mike Tyson in his prime — mysterious, ferocious and seemingly unbeatable.

A victory by Rogers in front of a national television audience on CBS would be akin to Buster Douglas's stunning knockout of Tyson back in 1990, and the man who hails from one of the toughest housing projects in the country knows he's viewed as that type of underdog.

But it beats changing tires for a living.

As late as April, Rogers worked at a Sam's Club in the St. Paul suburb of Woodbury, changing tires to put food on the table for his wife and three young children. He also happened to be one of the fastest-rising challengers in MMA, going 10-0 with nine knockouts to earn a shot against the man simply known as Fedor — which rhymes with Vader — in his highly anticipated debut for Strikeforce this weekend.

Ultimate hero Khan

ULTIMATE fighter Michael Bisping is looking to Amir Khan for inspiration as he bids to bounce back from only the second defeat of his career.

The Clitheroe mixed martial artist hasn't fought since his second round knockout by Dan Henderson in July.

He takes on Denis Kang at UFC 105 at the MEN Arena on November 14 and says Khan's WBA light-welterweight success at the same venue this summer has been on his mind throughout his preparation for the clash.

Khan has enjoyed a remarkable reversal of fortunes following his stunning defeat to Breidis Prescott last year.

He needed only three fights to turn himself into a world champion with his unanimous points victory over Andreas Kotelnik in July.

And Bisping is hoping to do likewise as he attempts to erase the Henderson defeat from his mind.

"Amir Khan, showed the way you come back from a bad KO defeat," he said. "Amir was written off, but did what he needed to do, didn't stop believing in himself and came back to not only get right back to where he was before, but also go on to win the world title.

"Everyone wrote Amir off, except for himself and the people around him.
